Trichopilia sanguinolenta is a warm to cool growing species from Ecuador, Columbia and Peru. In the wild this species is found growing in wet montane forest at elevations from 600 to 2,000 metres. The inflorescence measures 10cm and bears successively opening flowers of which one or more rarely two will be open at any one time. The plant blooms from late winter and into the spring.

This plant is flowering size. Grow Trichopilia sanguinolenta in a pot, in shade (brighter during the winter months), never in direct sunlight and keep it evenly moist all year. This plant grows well in an intermediate greenhouse and can be grown indoors if consistent temperatures are provided. This species likes cooler night time temperatures.
