Mammillaria spinosissima is a species found in central Mexico in the Guerrero and Morelos regions. In the wild this species is found growing on limestone cliffs in seasonal and dry habitats, plants grow amongst rocks and at elevations between 1,600 and 1,900 metres. The plant measures up to 30cm and bears small pink flowers.
This plant is flowering size and is growing in a pot. Grow Mammillaria spinosissima in a pot with a media containing a mixture of perlite, sand, and gravel, in bright light, and allow it to dry in between watering. This plant will grow well in a greenhouse and indoors with air circulation and consistently warm temperatures. Plants need to be grown dry; water plants about once every 10 days and reduce further in the winter months. This species likes an intermediate greenhouse with night low temperatures of 13-18 degrees and daytime temperatures of 25-31 degrees. Plants grow well indoors on a sunny southern or western windowsill.
