Its parentage is recorded as Dendrobium hekouense \times Dendrobium metrium. ​This orchid is a miniature, sympodial perennial bred to remain compact. It produces short, clustered, cane-like pseudobulbs typical of the Dendrobium genus. The foliage is evergreen or semi-evergreen, consisting of leathery, ovate leaves. The flowers are typically produced on short, upright spikes that emerge from the upper nodes of the mature canes, often blooming more than once a year. The blooms are small to medium-sized and are known to be showy and long-lasting for the genus. Given the diverse parentage, the flower colour tends towards vibrant, warm tones—likely shades of yellow, apricot, or cream, possibly with complex markings inherited from its ancestors.
 
​Cultivation
 
​As a hybrid with complex parentage, ‘Tropic Mini Gem’ is more forgiving than many species, making it an excellent intermediate-to-warm houseplant or a perfect candidate for a terrarium or humid cabinet in the UK. It requires bright, indirect light (East or South-facing window with filtered light). Use an open, fast-draining epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of sphagnum moss or coir. The plant benefits from a clear growth cycle: water regularly and thoroughly during spring and summer, allowing the medium to approach dryness between soakings. It may benefit from a slight reduction in water and temperature in winter to encourage blooming.
