Adenium obesum is a species from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen and the Africa Sahel and Sahara. Plants inhabit rocky or sandy terrain. Plants in cultivation grow smaller than wild plants do. The leaves emerge from the top of the main stem or branches. Mature plants have a caudex which grows large in well grown specimens. The flowers are varied in size and colour. Colours range from white, pink, reds and mauve. Plants bloom during both the spring and autumn months taking a break during summer and winter. The sap is poisonous to humans and animals.

The plants are a flowering size and are growing in pots. The plants are regrowing leaves as they prepare for the growing season ahead. Grow Adenium obesum in a pot and use a media that is a mixture of perlite, fine bark, grit, sand and stone. Make sure the plant gets sufficient air movement particularly when grown in humidity above 50%; always ensure that humidity is low to moderate and give the plant moderate shade. Plants need to be grown dry; the media needs to dry before watering and watering should be reduced further during cooler weather. Plants will drop leaves if grown too cold. This species likes an intermediate to cool greenhouse with night low temperatures of 12-24 degrees and daytime temperatures of 23-42 degrees. Plants will grow indoors if cooler night temperatures, good light and a small amount of air circulation is provided.
