Habitat and Location:

Bulbophyllum uniflorum, a species found in the Philippines, Sumatra, Java and Borneo. Found growing in hill forest and lower montane forest at elevations between 500 and 1,800 metres. A trunk epiphyte often encountered climbing trees at the edges of swamps or forest clearings.

 

Description and Key Features:

Bulbophyllum uniflorum is a creeping species and the distance between the pseudobulbs varies. The variable distance is recorded as 2 cm to 20 cm. The pseudobulbs make this species easier to identify when out of flower as they a longer and slightly flattened. Each pseudobulb produces a solitary leaf which measure 12 cm and is an elliptic shape. The flowers are solitary and measure 4 cm.

 

Care Instructions:

Grow Bulbophyllum uniflorum on a mount or in a pot with a moisture retentive media of moss, fine bark, perlite, and charcoal. Provide additional air circulation in humidity above 70%. Provide moderate to bright light for good growth and flowers, spray mounted plants at least once a day and more frequently in warmer weather. Make sure potted plants do not dry out. Maintain an intermediate or warm greenhouse or terrarium/paludarium with night temperatures of 15-22 degrees and daytime temperatures of 22-31 degrees. Suitable for indoor growth with moderate light, quality water and consistent but less watering schedules.
