Habitat:
The cultivar Epipremnum pinnatum 'Cebu Blue' originates from the species Epipremnum pinnatum, which is widespread across tropical Asia and the western Pacific, including the Philippines, where this silvery-blue form was discovered on Cebu Island. In the wild, E. pinnatum grows in lowland and montane rainforests, often as a root-climbing hemiepiphyte on trees or rocks, from sea level up to 1,200 metres elevation. It thrives in humid, shaded forest margins, sometimes in disturbed or secondary growth habitats.
Description:
Epipremnum pinnatum 'Cebu Blue' is a striking cultivated form known for its metallic blue-green foliage with a slight iridescence. It begins as a terrestrial or trailing juvenile vine, with narrow, lanceolate leaves measuring 7–15 cm long and 1.5–4 cm wide, displaying a smooth texture and silvery sheen. As the plant matures—especially when given vertical support—it can develop larger, pinnately fenestrated leaves similar to the wild type, sometimes exceeding 30 cm in length. The stems root at the nodes and may climb aggressively with aerial roots. Flowers are rare in cultivation and seldom seen; in the wild, E. pinnatum produces an inflorescence consisting of a pale spathe and yellowish spadix, but this cultivar is typically grown for its foliage.
Cultivation:
Grow Epipremnum pinnatum 'Cebu Blue' in bright, indirect light, though it tolerates medium shade. For best color and fenestration, provide support for climbing and consistent humidity. Daytime temperatures should range between 20–28 °C, with nighttime lows of 15–18 °C. It prefers a well-drained, airy soil mix containing coco coir, bark, and perlite. Keep the substrate evenly moist, allowing the top few centimetres to dry slightly between waterings. Maintain humidity above 50% for best growth. It prefers a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0). Feed monthly during the active growing season with a balanced foliage fertiliser. This cultivar is easily propagated via stem cuttings rooted in water or soil.
