Please note that I am doubtful that the actual plant. We are offering is the species that we describe below. The plant was imported from a well known south american nursery as this, but the identification, it almost certainly not correct.
Habitat
Cryptogramma raddeana is native to temperate Asia, distributed from Siberia and Mongolia through northern China and into Korea and Japan. It inhabits rocky slopes, cliffs, and dry, stony grasslands at elevations between 200–2,500 m, often colonising thin soils in exposed sites where drainage is excellent.
Description
This deciduous fern forms small tufts with dimorphic fronds. The sterile fronds are 5–20 cm long, triangular in outline, and finely divided into ovate to lanceolate segments with a delicate, lacy appearance. The fertile fronds are taller, up to 30 cm long, with narrow, erect pinnae that bear continuous sori along the undersides of the lobes, protected by reflexed margins. Rhizomes are short and creeping, producing dense clusters of fronds. The plant dies back to the rhizome in winter and re-emerges in spring.
Cultivation
Cryptogramma raddeana prefers bright, indirect light to partial sun and thrives in rocky, sharply drained soils with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. It requires consistent moisture during the growing season but must be kept drier in winter dormancy. A substrate mix of loam, sand, and grit suits its alpine character. High humidity is not necessary, as this species is adapted to exposed, drier sites compared to many ferns.
Daytime temperatures of 18–25 °C and nighttime temperatures of 10–15 °C are ideal during the growing season. It is hardy to frost and can tolerate temperatures as low as –20 °C when dormant. Fertilisation is rarely needed, though a light feeding with diluted liquid fertiliser in spring can support growth.
