Cattleya lueddemanniana is from Venezuela. This species inhabits the northern slopes of the coastal mountain range, in full sun and at elevations from sea level to 500 metres. There is another population of plants further inland (elevation unknown). There are differences in the two populations, the coastal one having paler, larger, and better shaped flowers. Inflorescences measure 10 cm and produce 3-5 flowers, the flowers measure 20 cm. Plants flower during the spring and the flowers are scented.

This is a near flowering size plant, and it is growing in a pot. Grow Cattleya lueddemanniana in a pot with a medium to coarse bark media, leca or on a mount. Grow your plant in very bright light. This species is known as the Cattleya species that likes the brightest sunlight and to the point where the leaf colour should be light green. This species needs air movement to prevent the leaves from burning when given maximum light. This species grows well in an intermediate to warm greenhouse and needs night-time temperatures of 16 - 20 degrees and daytime temperatures of 26 to 30 degrees. The growing season starts during the winter months, and it blooms as soon as the new growths have completed growing. Plants can sometimes make another new growth after blooming but it won’t flower until the autumn. This species can be grown easily indoors if given suitable conditions.
