Habitat:
Aeschynanthus parviflorus is native to the subtropical regions of South Asia, including the eastern Himalayas, northern India, Bhutan, Thailand, southern China, and Vietnam. This epiphytic subshrub typically grows on tree branches or rocks in tropical and subtropical forests, often found at elevations between 850 and 1,800 meters.
Description:
Aeschynanthus parviflorus is an evergreen climber with small, bright green leaves and produces tubular, red flowers that are characteristic of the Gesneriaceae family. The plant's growth habit allows it to cascade gracefully, making it suitable for cultivation in hanging baskets or as an epiphyte on suitable supports.
Cultivation:
To cultivate Aeschynanthus parviflorus successfully, replicate its native humid, shaded conditions. Provide a warm, humid environment with bright but indirect sunlight, as excessive direct sunlight can cause leaf scorch. Regular watering is essential to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged; ensure excess water drains away to prevent root rot. Mounted plants must be watered every day. This species thrives in temperatures between 15°C and 25°C. During the growing season, feed the plant with a diluted, balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every one to two weeks. Maintaining high humidity levels is crucial for optimal growth and flowering.
