Habitat:
Azara lanceolata, commonly known as lanceleaf azara, is an evergreen shrub native to the temperate regions of southern Argentina and Chile. It thrives in woodland margins and lakesides, often found in fertile, humus-rich soils.
Description:
This species typically grows as a shrub or small tree, reaching heights of 3–5 meters with a similar spread. It has narrow, bright green, lanceolate leaves up to 6 cm in length. During spring, it produces fragrant mustard-yellow flowers in small, rounded clusters about 2 cm across.
Cultivation:
Azara lanceolata thrives in moist but well-drained soils and prefers partial shade, though it can tolerate full sun if sheltered from cold winds. Regular watering is necessary, especially during dry periods, to maintain consistent soil moisture. A slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0) is recommended for optimal growth. This species is frost hardy down to -5°C (23°F).
