Habitat:

Bulbophyllum brevibrachiatum is native to Southeast Asia, specifically found in the primary forests and plantations along streams of Sulawesi and the Philippines . It thrives at elevations ranging from 100 to 1,500 metres above sea level . This species grows as an epiphyte in wet tropical biomes, often in humid, shaded environments with consistent moisture .

Description:

This small-sized orchid is a hot to cool-growing epiphyte featuring ovoid pseudobulbs that support a single, apical, erect, broadly elliptical leaf. The plant produces a basal, erect inflorescence approximately 30 cm long, bearing a few to several flowers arranged in an umbel at the apex . The flowers are small, about 2.5 cm in length, and are notable for their dramatic appearance despite their size . The species is characterized by its short bracts, which distinguish it from closely related species.

Cultivation:

Bulbophyllum brevibrachiatum prefers intermediate to warm temperatures and should be kept moist during the summer months, ensuring the growing medium does not dry out completely. In winter, reduce watering slightly to allow the mix to become slightly dry between waterings. The plant thrives in shaded conditions and benefits from good air movement to prevent fungal growth . Suitable potting media include sphagnum moss, fine bark, or mounting on appropriate substrates.
