Habitat and Location:
This hybrid of Coelogyne viscosa x Coelogyne trinervis is a cultivated cross between two striking orchid species native to Southeast Asia. The parent species, Coelogyne viscosa and Coelogyne trinervis, are found in montane forests across regions like India, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, thriving as epiphytes or lithophytes at elevations of 800 to 2,000 meters. This hybrid inherits its parents' preference for cool to intermediate climates, high humidity, and dappled forest light.
Description:
This hybrid combines the best traits of its parent species, featuring gracefully arching inflorescences adorned with clusters of fragrant, delicate flowers, and a yellow colour that shimmers. The blooms typically exhibit creamy white petals with subtle veining and a striking lip adorned with intricate patterns in shades of yellow or orange, with brown. The flowers emerge from robust pseudobulbs, accompanied by elegant, lance-shaped leaves, making it a standout addition to any orchid collection.
Care Instructions:
This hybrid thrives in bright, indirect light and requires consistent moisture. Pot it in a well-draining orchid mix, or mount it on cork or tree fern for a more natural presentation. Water regularly during the growing season, keeping the medium moist but not soggy, and reduce watering during the cooler months when the plant is less active. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.
Maintain daytime temperatures between 20-28°C and nighttime temperatures of 10-16°C. Provide high humidity levels (50-70%) and ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal problems. Fertilize with a balanced orchid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during active growth, tapering off during the dormant season.
