Dendrochilum longilabre is a species from Mindanao. Plants form large colonies as a trunk and branch epiphyte and inhabit dense mossy cloud forests at elevations between 1,700 and 2,300 metres. Inflorescences measure 15-20 cm, and bear 15-30 small flowers that measures about 1 cm across. Plants usually bloom during the autumn, winter, or spring.
This is a flowering size plant and is growing in a pot. Grow Dendrochilum longilabre on a mount, or in a pot or basket with a sphagnum moss, perlite, and fine bark mixed media. Give your plant moderate shade, never direct or bright sunlight and give it a lot of water all year. This species suffers if grown in the same amount of light as other Dendrochilum species. We grow our plants sitting in a small amount of water and the same amount of light as a Pleurothallid. Plants grow well in an intermediate greenhouse, and they appreciate night-time temperatures of 13-17 degrees and day temperatures of 22 to 28 degrees. This species likes a distinct difference between day and night temperature and cool misty air. This Dendrochilum will grow indoors but will struggle and will never grow well as it would in a greenhouse.
