Habitat:
Passiflora ligularis, commonly known as sweet granadilla or yellow passionfruit, is native to the Andes Mountains, spanning regions from Bolivia and Venezuela to Colombia, and extending as far south as northern Argentina and north to Mexico. This fast-growing, woody-based vine typically flourishes in humid, tropical highland forests at elevations between 1,000 and 3,000 metres. It thrives in well-drained, fertile soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6 to 7) and requires a warm, frost-free climate with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C.

Description:
Passiflora ligularis is a vigorous, evergreen climber that can reach lengths of 5 to 26 meters. The leaves are heart-shaped, measuring up to 20 cm in length. It produces large, pale green flowers followed by sweet, ovoid, orange-yellow fruits, known as granadillas, which are consumed fresh or used to make beverages.

Cultivation:
To cultivate Passiflora ligularis successfully, replicate its native highland conditions by providing a warm, humid environment with ample indirect sunlight. Utilize well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter, maintaining a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6 to 7). Regular watering is essential to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and applying balanced N-P-K fertilizers every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season supports optimal growth and fruiting. Pruning is beneficial to remove dead or diseased foliage and encourage healthy development. In regions outside its native range, such as parts of the United States, cultivation may require greenhouse conditions to maintain the necessary temperature and humidity levels.
