Geographical and Botanical Habitat:
Plerandra elegantissima, commonly known as False Aralia, is from the South Pacific, in New Caledonia. In its wild habitat, this botanical species is found growing in the understory of dense, humid forests. This species measures 1.5-5 metres and is characterized by its finely divided leaves and gracefully arching stems.
In its native environment, Plerandra elegantissima displays an upright growth habit, reaching heights of up to several meters. The plant's foliage varies in shape and colour, consisting of intricately divided leaflets. This species has adapted to thrive in the filtered sunlight that penetrates through the dense overhead foliage.
Cultural Preferences and Botanical Care:
To cultivate Plerandra elegantissima successfully, one must replicate its wild growth conditions. In its subtropical and tropical habitat, the plant prefers well-draining, humus-rich soil and filtered sunlight. When grown indoors, provide bright, indirect light and consistent watering ensuring the media does not become sodden. Plants will grow outside in temperatures to freezing but ideally they should be taken in and protected during freezing weather.
