Habitat:
Trichotosia dasyphylla is found across a wide range in Southeast Asia, including southern China (Yunnan), the eastern Himalayas, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, and the islands of Borneo, Sumatra, and Java. It typically inhabits lower to mid-elevation tropical forests, usually between 300 and 1500 metres. It grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks and branches in humid, shaded forest interiors, as well as occasionally as a lithophyte on mossy rocks in damp environments. The species favours areas with high annual rainfall, constant humidity, and filtered light under dense canopy cover.

Description:
Trichotosia dasyphylla is a scrambling or trailing epiphytic orchid with long, slender, creeping or arching stems up to 60–100 cm long. The stems are densely covered in fine brown hairs, which also cover the foliage and give the plant a velvety texture. Leaves are arranged distichously, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, measuring approximately 3–7 cm long and 0.8–2 cm wide, with a leathery surface and acute apex. Flowers are small, around 1.2–1.5 cm in diameter, and borne in short axillary inflorescences carrying one to three blooms. The sepals and petals are pale yellowish to dull brown, with the labellum often darker or tinged reddish-purple. The lip is three-lobed and prominently veined. It is closely related to Trichotosia ferox but is distinguished by its smaller flower size and more softly hairy stems.

Cultivation:
Trichotosia dasyphylla requires shaded conditions with bright, indirect light and high humidity (70–90%). It prefers daytime temperatures of 22°C to 30°C and nighttime temperatures of 14°C to 18°C. Water consistently throughout the year to maintain lightly moist conditions, using rainwater or distilled water to avoid mineral build-up. It thrives in a slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5–6.5) and should be mounted on cork or tree fern or grown in a coarse epiphytic mix of bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite to ensure good drainage and aeration. Fertilise monthly with a weak orchid fertiliser during active growth.
