Achimenes longiflora is a species from Columbia to Mexico and is one of 22 species within the genus. In the wild this species inhabits shady wet hill forests at elevations between 800 and 1,200 metres. Inflorescences measure 8 cm, emerge from the bases of the growths and bear a solitary flower. Plants bloom during the summer and autumn.

This plant is flowering size and is growing in a pot. Grow Achimenes longiflora in a pot and use a media which is a mixture of perlite, peat free compost and a fine bark mix. Make sure the plant gets sufficient air movement particularly when gown in humidity above 70%; always ensure that humidity is sufficiently high and give the plant moderate bright shade. Plants need to be grown damp but not waterlogged and not dry. This species likes an intermediate to warm greenhouse with night low temperatures of 13-18 degrees and daytime temperatures of 25-33 degrees. Plants will grow indoors if humidity and air circulation are provided. This makes a good plant to add to the garden during the warmest months and when temperature is above 15 degrees Celsius.
