Cattleya porphyroglossa is endemic to Brazil. In the wild this species grows in sun, often near water and on trees. The inflorescence measures 10 cm and bears 2-4 flowers. The flowers measure 8cm across and are scented, the plant blooms during the summer.

 

Grow Cattleya porphyroglossa on a mount or in a pot with a fine/medium bark media. Give plants bright to moderate light, brighter sunlight over the winter and a lot of water during the growing season. Give plants a short rest after the growth is fully grown. Increase watering again after it flowers. This plant grows well in a warm to intermediate greenhouse and appreciates night-time temperatures of 14-19 degrees and daytime temperatures of 26 to 30 degrees. Plants are suitable for growing indoors and will flower is given sufficient light.
