Cleistocactus winteri subsp. colademono is a sought after species found in Bolivia. In the wild this species is a lithophyte growing from cliff faces. The hairy appearance is appealing and because of this, the species is rare in the wild. The hairs are to protect the plant from frost and intense sunshine. When grown in optimal conditions, stems will attain 2.5 metres long. Flowers are blood red and rcm across.

This plant is nearly flowering size, in a pot with a gravel-based media. Grow Cleistocactus winteri subsp. colademono in a pot with a media consisting of fine bark, gravel and the smallest amount of soil. Make sure the plant gets sufficient air movement, particularly when grown in humidity above 60% and during an excessively hot day. Never let the plant get dehydrated and the soil dry out for long periods. Even in deserts plants receive moisture from early morning dew. This species likes an intermediate or warm greenhouse with night low temperatures of 16-24 degrees and daytime temperatures of 24-35 degrees. Plants will grow indoors well if given the sunniest position, sufficient air movement, and a difference between day and night temperature.
